Professional Project - 2023
Made with fine cacao sourced from Cusco, Peru, this single-origin dark chocolate bar is an ode to the hardworking women who fearlessly take charge and make things happen. The organization, “Qori Warmi,” consists of over thirty female entrepreneurs who are responsible for A-Z: from cultivating and harvesting cacao to marketing it. It just so happens that the name translates to “Women are worth gold” from Quechua.
When I took on this design project for Brussels-based bean-to-bar chocolate brand, MIKE&BECKY, I knew I wanted to do something special to pay tribute to these females who have risen above their circumstances, and in some cases, have become the sole breadwinners of their families due to losing loved ones to violence in the region. As a tribute to their wonderful culture and community, I decided to illustrate a woman dressed in traditional Peruvian attire and place her front and center on the packaging. For the color scheme, I kept things traditional and vibrant. I aimed for the packaging to be eye-catching and to make people curious about why the illustration is there. This is one of my all-time favorite projects that I have done so far.
